Though it can be challenging to find time to connect regularly as a family in today’s fast-paced world, doing so is important. Time together as a family can boost kids’ self-esteem, make them more socially developed, and create strong relational bonds. Our favourite outdoor activity with the kids is scooter adventures! These times spent together will create special memories, and keep everyone in the family active, healthy and happy.
More and more people are turning to scooting and the trend is growing. Scooters now come in many designs and aimed at all ages including, toddlers, young children, tweens, teens, urban dwellers, commuters and parents wanting to keep up with their kids. There really is something for everyone.
Here are 3 ideas you could incorporate with a scooter adventure for your family:
Go on a picnic. With a little bit of pre-planning, some time spent in the kitchen together packing up a picnic lunch, and a destination in mind (perhaps Pasir Ris Park, Sentosa Cove or the East Coast), this idea would be perfect for all ages. Grab a backpack or two to carry along the picnic necessities and work up an appetite on the way. Keep the meal simple and healthy to pair with your active lifestyle. This will be a favourite family memory for sure.
Plan a treasure hunt. This one will take a bit of forethought and planning time for Mum & Dad, but how much fun would it be for the kids to go on a treasure hunt scooting through your city together? Siblings would be learning, exploring and figuring out clues together. You could plan in races and competitions at certain spots along the way. Whatever your final “treasure” is, the fun you will all have, will be the real reward.
Scoot on over to the library. The National Library on Victoria Street would be a great destination! Encourage your kids to get off their electronic devices more and read an actual book. As you’re scooting your way over, discuss what types of books (mystery, adventure, sci-fi, etc.) your kids want to look for and encourage them to try new things. Be sure to set the example by getting a book to read too. This physical activity paired with a mental one will make you all feel good.
Adding scooters to your family life will bring nothing but benefits. Being active outdoors together like this comes with so many positive upsides…healthier parents and kids, enjoying nature, making memories that will last a lifetime. But don’t forget one of the most important benefits: being together. Be open to the conversations that can happen just by spending time together. Our kids are the future, and they are worth the investment of time, love and attention we give them now.
